The Colt Model of 1855 Sidehammer or “Root Revolver” was a small bore pocket revolver, designed by Engineer Elisha K. Root and bade by Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company. The pistol was Colt’s first solid frame revolver design, though it never became wildly popular. The revolving mechanism was also used in a number of revolving long arms.
One notable user of the Colt Model of 1855 was George Armstrong Custer, whilst he was still a cadet.
Overall condition of this pistol is very good for its age, with the majority if the surface finish having faded to a consistent patina, but without any significant sign of pitting. This pistol also comes with a very good condition wooden case and accessories.
