This German Drilling is somewhat of an enigma, it is not marked with a maker, so despite our original assessment that it may be made by Sauer & Sohn it may well be made by one of the other German guilds. Its 26 ¾ long barrels are made from Krupp fluid steel and has double black powder proofs, noting that it was made before 1912 when the German government started requiring special proofs for nitrocellulose loads. The rifle barrel has deep and strong rifling and is marked 118/35 noting that it is cut for 9.3x72R with deep rifling for lead billets. The stocks are of a beautiful walnut with wear appropriate for its age and a hairline crack at the back of the left lock. The final interesting feature of this fine firearm is the rib, behind the automatic flip up rifle sight are a pair of mounting blocks for an unknown type of scope mount, rounding this into a nice hunting package if one were to find the correct mounts.
