This Gewehr 98 sporter was originally manufactured in 1900 as a military rifle. While this rifle retains a military barrel, the barrel number does not match the receiver and the chamber markings have been removed, so we cannot confirm if the bore is .318 or .323. The barrel was either cut down for a factory carbine or later during the sporterization, during this process the rifle also had the sights replaced and a custom stock installed. Overall condition is good, with strong bluing on the metal and moderate wear on the stock, the stock is cracked near the tip and the pad is cracked from age. The rear sight arm also appears to be slightly bent. Mechanical condition is excellent, with proper function of the safety and a crisp two stage trigger.
