About Dan Rossiter

A subscriber to Guns and Ammo magazine from the age of 10 and a competitive shooter from the age of 14, Dan Rossiter grew up in a family of hunters and quickly found his way into the world of firearms. An athletic scholarship to Duquesne University competing in three position rifle and air rifle was complimented by summers shooting SXS guns with The Vintagers. Through this group of vintage enthusiasts, he encoutered Andrew McFarlane, who took Dan on as a gunmaking apprentice in 2004.

Inspired by McFarlane’s history as an actioner for E. J. Churchill and his overall attention to detail and commitment to quality, Dan decided to pursue a gunmaking career. In 2007 he began a gunsmithing business based on vintage double gun repair and restoration, where he discovered his talents for stockmaking and metal sculpting. After several years of developing his skillset with double gun restoration, repairs, restocking and stockmaking, Dan was accepted into the American Custom Gunmakers Guild in 2017, joining the ranks of the finest gunmakers in the country.

After being approached by Griffin & Howe, Dan joined the team as a stockmaker in 2020 and has since been promoted to shop foreman. In his time with Griffin & Howe he has revived and expanded the fine rifle building operations, launched a number of specialty builds, and spearheaded the creation of Griffin & Howe’s finest rifle to date – the Criterion.

About Chris Rossiter

Growing up as Dan’s younger brother, Chris Rossiter was also raised as a keen hunter and fisherman, initially pursuing a career as a professional farrier and earning his certification at Cornell University. Working alongside his father, Chris built a successful farrier business before discovering his true calling – engraving.

Introduced to the craft by Dan and inspired by his brother’s work, Chris immersed himself in the art of engraving, dedicating a decade to mastering the intricate techniques and traditions of the trade. His relentless pursuit of excellence culminated in his induction into the American Custom Gunmakers Guild in 2021, as well as achieving the prestigious title of Master Engraver in 2025, recognized by the Firearms Engravers Guild of America.

Chris specializes in a variety of engraving styles, including English Rose & Scroll, American, and Germanic designs. He has spent countless hours refining these techniques, studying under some of the world’s finest engravers. Among his most sought-after work are game scenes, where he employs the delicate Bulino engraving style; a method often seen on the finest high-end firearms. Through precision, artistry, and an unwavering dedication to his craft, Chris continues to push the boundaries of firearm engraving, creating heirloom-quality pieces that stand the test of time.
