This introductory course is designed for beginner to intermediate shooters who wish to develop a solid foundation in pistol shooting, focusing on holster draw, accurate target engagement, and effective malfunction clearing.
The course combines instruction with practical application live-fire drills conducted from the holster, allowing students to practice essential skills in a safe and controlled environment. By the end of the day, students will be able to competently draw their pistol from the holster, engage targets accurately, and respond to common malfunctions with confidence. Tactical holsters only, no concealed carry holsters.
Course Objectives
Participants will gain skills and knowledge to:
• Understand the fundamental safety principles for handling a pistol
• Master the proper holster draw technique and be able to engage a target within a controlled, smooth process
• Perform accurate shooting from the holster at various distances
• Understand and execute essential malfunction clearing techniques
• Practice drills that improve pistol handling and marksmanship under stress
• Increase speed and accuracy in drawing and engaging targets
Prerequisites:
This is a beginner-level course; however, students must have a basic understanding of their firearm, the ability to operate a semi-automatic handgun safely, and be able to always demonstrate proper range safety.
Student Equipment Requirements:
- Semi-automatic handgun (9mm or similar caliber recommended)
- Minimum of 350 rounds of factory ammunition (can be purchased on-site, subject to availability)
- Strong-side tactical holster (outside-the-waistband)
- Magazines (3 minimum, 5 recommended)
- Magazine pouch
- Electronic hearing protection
- Eye protection
- Weather-appropriate clothing (hat, sunscreen, gloves, etc.)
- Notebook and pen (for notes)
$625 per person (plus applicable NJ sales tax). Includes data book and Nalgene water bottle.
Dress code: no blue jeans, t-shirts or open-toed shoes please.
Cancellation Policy: Must contact us to cancel 10 days prior to class to receive full refund, or 72 hours prior to class to receive a 50% refund (minus credit card processing fees and applicable NJ sales tax). Any cancellations made less than 72 hours before the class date cannot be refunded.
