Originally conceived in the early Fall of the year 1998 over a fine glass of port, these fine firearms were to be a revival of the classic English hammer guns whilst they were at their apogee. To this end, they were wholly successful, these guns are a near exact copy of a 1923 “Bar in Iron” action, created by reverse engineering an original from Purdey’s reference collection as no original drawings or notes have survived. These reverse engendered schematics were then fed through a modern CNC system to reproduce these magnificent firearms with even finer precision and stronger materials than the originals.
There were of course a few modern niceties added as well as the modern materials. Namely being the addition of modern ejector assemblies as well as an automatic safety. These additions in combination with the exceptional quality in craftsmanship that Purdey is known for has made these firearms some of the nicest handling shotguns ever made.
With the first of these guns being delivered in 2004 and the last in 2008, as well as only very few being made in total it is a real treat being able to handle these wonderful firearms. This 20 Gauge pair sits in an attractive set of figured walnut stocks, with its case colored action covered in fine rose and scroll engraving that has been accented by an elegant border of gold inlay. There is not a single flaw along the whole length of either of these shotguns as they have never been fired other than to proof them.
