Saturday February 21st
14+ only (minors must be accompanied by a guardian). Must have a basic understanding of archery safety, working knowledge of bow operation and setup, and ability to draw and hold the bow safely and consistently.
The ShotIQ Archery Clinic is a one-day intensive course focusing on the mental mechanics of shot control for bow hunters and target archers, led by guest instructor Joel Turner, founder of ShotIQ.
Joel Turner developed ShotIQ from his extensive experience as a former SWAT team leader, police officer, and firearms instructor over two decades, combined with his lifelong background as an accomplished archer and world champion elk caller. His system, known as “Controlled Process Shooting,” focuses on the profound psychological and mental control issues—such as “target panic”—that plague shooters, asserting that the mind is the main obstacle to accurate shooting, not the body. Turner created this methodology after years of personal research into shot control, aiming to provide a mental blueprint that retrains a shooter’s neural pathways to separate automatic aiming from conscious, deliberate shot activation, ultimately eliminating the anticipation and flinching that ruin shots under pressure.
Shooters will learn the cognitive science behind target panic, the origins of flinch and fear responses, and how to implement a controlled expansion system. Through guided dry work, live-fire drills, and pressure-based exercises, students will build self-command strategies, visual patience, and reliable mental sequencing for real-world archery scenarios.
Objectives:
- Understand the neuroscience behind target panic and subconscious activation
- Develop a deliberate ShotIQ archery shot sequence
- Demonstrate controlled expansion and cognitive override under supervision
- Implement psycho-linguistic cues and self-command for reliable execution
- Build visual patience and refined aiming discipline
- Identify and correct subconscious interference during shot execution
