Sunday February 22nd
18+ only. Must have a zeroed rifle prior to start of clinic, and an understanding of fundamental marksmanship and firearm safety.
The ShotIQ Rifle Clinic is a one-day intensive course designed to teach shooters the mental mechanics of controlled shot execution, led by guest instructor Joel Turner, founder of ShotIQ.
Joel Turner developed ShotIQ from his extensive experience as a former SWAT team leader, police officer, and firearms instructor over two decades, combined with his lifelong background as an accomplished archer and world champion elk caller. His system, known as “Controlled Process Shooting,” focuses on the profound psychological and mental control issues—such as “target panic”—that plague shooters, asserting that the mind is the main obstacle to accurate shooting, not the body. Turner created this methodology after years of personal research into shot control, aiming to provide a mental blueprint that retrains a shooter’s neural pathways to separate automatic aiming from conscious, deliberate shot activation, ultimately eliminating the anticipation and flinching that ruin shots under pressure.
This course applies these cognitive override principles to the rifle platform. Participants will learn the neuroscience behind anticipation, subconsciously driven trigger activation, recoil management, and controlled break mechanics. The day emphasizes mental discipline, deliberate shot process development, and stress-based application to improve consistency in hunting, precision shooting, and real‑world engagements. It will also include extended-distance pistol shooting out to and beyond 100 yards using Griffin & Howe-provided firearms and ammunition. These drills are designed to challenge assumptions, reinforce cognitive control, and prove that precision is governed by the mind long before the trigger is pressed.
With a supportive, feedback‑driven learning environment, shooters will work through mental‑task sequencing, self‑command language, visual patience, and live‑fire drills that reveal and correct subconscious influence.
Objectives:
- Understand the neuroscience driving anticipation and flinch responses
- Develop a controlled, deliberate rifle shot process using cognitive override
- Demonstrate the ShotIQ trigger control methodology under varying stress levels
- Apply self‑commands and mental sequencing to maintain control through the shot
- Manage visual patience, breath cycles, and recoil recovery deliberately
- Identify subconscious interference and correct breakdowns in real time
