This is a cavalry style cap and ball pistol with an approximately 58 caliber smoothbore barrel. The lock is engraved and the sears still work but feel somewhat corroded. The twisted iron barrel still maintains some of its original brown finish and is accented by engravings and gold inlay. The stock has iron hardware held on by a set of flat nails, which I assume to be a period repair and is accented by the addition of mother of pearl inlays around the tang. From what the original owner has stated, this is a relic from India and was used by the British East India Company, I have no reason to doubt this claim based on the condition.
