2024 Vintage Rifle Challenge

Join Us for the First Griffin & Howe Vintage Rifle Match!

This vintage rifle challenge is for World War One, World War Two or Korean War era sniper rifles.

The match will be an 8 stage course of fire, with targets ranging from 50 – 700 yards, combining vintage-style paper targets with custom steel sniper silhouette targets.

$200 per person – includes the match, lunch, refreshments, and a BBQ dinner to follow


• Shooters and their partners will alternative as shooter and spotter, moving from one establuished hide to the next

• Teams will be positioned at multiple locations for a shotgun start.

• Scoring will emphasize a combination of speed and accuracy, depending on target distance

• Course of fire to be provided to all participants the week before the match

• Prizes from sponsors will be awarded for first, second and third place teams in two separate categories; bolt action and semi-auto. Additional prizes will be awareded according to the Lewis class system, providing everyone a chance to win something interesting

• This event will take place rain or shine; match will only be paused for an imminent electrical storm or rain that obscures the targets

• Participants will need to assume prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions; it may also be necessary to climb a short ladder for an elevated hide. There will be no running, jumping, or crawling.

Rules and Regulations

Rifles and optics must conform to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) rules from a 1953 and earlier vintage sniper rifle: see table 8, page 64

No bipods allowed; participants must be able to move their gear from one hide to the next in one trip

No alibis

Stoppages may be cleared as long as safe procedures are followed, but time will not be reset

If one gun is disabled, shooting may continue with the other team member’s rifle

Empty champer indicators (ECIs) required when not shooting

Movement from one hide to the next will be under the direction of Range Safety Officers (RSOs)

RSOs will be located at each hide to ensure safety, score hits and misses, and measure engagement times


WW1, WW2 or Korean War era rifle

Minimum 70 rounds of ammunition

Range card

Shooting glasses

Ear protection that allows you to hear your spotter and the RSO

Elbow pads

Backpack for rain gear and shooting rest/bags

Please note: high quality binoculars and spotting scopes will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own. There will also be ground pads provided in the hides.
