This Drilling, made by one of the many German Guilds, has seen quite a few hunts, and its condition shows it. Starting with the stock, the beautiful carvings somewhat conceal the fact that there are cracks throughout the heading and into the wrist, which appears to have been repaired at some point and failed again. The action is in good condition, but appears to have been fitted with replacement firing pins. The barrels have had claw type scope mounts fitted, which appears to have caused the solder under the rib to fail. The proofs are also a point of interest, as it has been re proofed a number of times, it was originally proofed as 16 gauge, then crossed out and re proofed as 12 Gauge, leaving very thin chamber walls though it obviously passed proof for at least black powder loads. The shotgun bores are very tight as a result of being originally made for 16 gauge, and have some pitting ahead of the forcing cones, the rifle barrel is chambered for the obscure 8x57R360 Cartridge, only commonly found amongst Drilling rifle barrels. Overall the condition is poor, either needing extensive repairs or to be retired to a wall hanger.
