The Steyr M95 and its shorter variants were designed by Ferdinand Mannlicher using an improved variant of his earlier M1890 straight pull bolt action design. This example is one of the carbine variants, imported by IO Inc and from its condition had likely spent part of its life in Africa or the Middle East. While external condition appears good, with a mechanically sound stock, and a surprisingly good finish, the internal components of the bolt are very worn, with what appears to be a poorly made replacement safety. The worn extractor and bolt head cause the bolt head to not detent properly in the unlocked position, making function, disassembly and reassembly very difficult. Luckily the bore is of a serviceable condition, with no severe pitting or corrosion, but with worn rifling. This rifle will still need a full inspection before use, and likely will also need replacement parts, but with a usable bore and solid stock, it does deserve to be revived.
