Hunting in New Zealand

New Zealand’s diverse terrain, ranging from rugged mountains to dense forests, provides habitat for a variety of sought-after game species. New Zealand Hunting Safaris offers access to wild, remote, and spectacular hunting terrain in the southern region of the South Island, including private, public, and farmland areas. They specialize in hunts for Red Stag, Elk, Fallow Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Chamois, White Tail Deer, Pigs, Feral Goat or Ram, and Sika/Rusa/Samba. The finest Otago red stags are found around Hāwea and the Southern Lakes region, and trophy fallow deer can be stalked in the wild or on a private native bush block, home to the original blue mountain fallow deer herd.

Red Stag Hunting

New Zealand is renowned for its exceptional Red Stag hunting, offering opportunities to harvest trophy-quality animals. New Zealand Hunting Safaris possesses extensive knowledge of the local terrain and wildlife, ensuring a successful and memorable hunt. Experience stalking Red Stag during the rut, guided by experienced professionals with deep local expertise. They provide access to prime hunting concessions and offer a range of accommodations, from their private lodge to cabins and campsites when out in the hill country. The Red Stag hunting season typically runs from March to May, during the roar, in both the South Island and North Island high country.

Himalayan Tahr Hunting

For the adventurous hunter, Himalayan Tahr hunts in New Zealand offer a challenging and rewarding experience. New Zealand Hunting Safaris provides access to prime Tahr habitat in the Southern Alps. These challenging mountain hunts are led by experienced guides, offering opportunities to harvest trophy-quality Tahr amidst breathtaking alpine scenery. Helicopter access is often available. The Tahr hunting season is typically year-round, with a peak season from April to August, in the Southern Alps of the South Island.
