INVENTORY CONTROL SPECIALIST

Job description

This position serves as the heartbeat of our retail and operational success. The ideal candidate will combine meticulous inventory management with an eye for retail merchandising. You will ensure our stockroom is flawless while actively shaping the customer experience on our showroom floor and managing the procurement of premium hunting and firearm accessories.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Accuracy

  • System Integrity: Manage all inventory records and transactions within our Point of Sale system.
  • Audit & Compliance: Conduct regular physical counts of showroom, gunsmithing, and liquor inventory; maintain precise usage documentation (including ammunition records and liquor registration forms).
  • Operational Support: Oversee receiving operations, label/process new merchandise, and investigate/resolve inventory discrepancies promptly.
  • Organization: Maintain highly organized storage, including the stockroom, ammunition vault, and archery storage.
  • Technical Maintenance: Monitor stock levels, update pricing, and ensure UPC codes are correctly entered for all new items.

Retail Merchandising & Showroom Strategy

  • Floor Planning: Strategically plan and execute the layout of the retail showroom to optimize flow, highlight seasonal gear, and maximize product visibility.
  • Visual Merchandising: Ensure the sales floor is stocked, restocked, and presented at a standard reflecting our brand, partnering with staff to keep the showroom floor engaging.

Purchasing & Vendor Coordination

  • Strategic Procurement: Assist the Purchasing Manager in selecting and ordering retail inventory for the hunting and firearm sectors, keeping trends and client needs in mind.
  • Vendor Relations: Coordinate stock deliveries and pickups, including managing relationships with embroidery vendors.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with other departments to ensure projects remain on schedule and that inventory arrivals align with marketing and sales initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience in inventory management or retail operations; a background in firearms or the outdoor sporting industry is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in retail management software (e.g., Counterpoint) and standard office documentation.
  • Mindset: A logical, detail-oriented professional who is also self-motivated with a creative flair for retail presentation.
  • Communication: Ability to balance the analytical needs of data management with the collaborative needs of working across departments.

ACCOUNTING ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Job description

Griffin & Howe is seeking a detail-oriented and organized full time Accounting Administrative Assistant to join our team in a fast-paced retail sporting goods showroom and service environment. This role is responsible for a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, administrative, and customer service functions that support the daily operations of the business. The ideal candidate will possess accounting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with customers, vendors, and internal departments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Receive, open, and distribute incoming mail
  • Process outgoing mail and maintain postage machine
  • Reconcile daily sales drawers and record daily deposits
  • Prepare bank deposits, submit change orders, and process remote check deposits
  • Order and maintain office supply inventory
  • Proficient in QuickBooks to process accounts payable transactions (vendor invoices)
  • Process accounts receivable transactions in Counterpoint (customer payments)
  • Manage collections and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Maintain consignment sales records, including reporting, payouts, and status tracking
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Complete monthly ledger account reconciliations and assist with month-end close processes
  • Work with customers and vendors to resolve billing or account issues
  • Coordinate travel arrangements as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Gunsmith - General Firearms Repair

Job description

Griffin & Howe is looking for a full time gunsmith for general firearms repair, to join our well established and world-renowned Gunsmithing department.

Must have 3+ years experience doing general firearms repair, be comfortable with firearms refinishing, and be qualified in shop skills such as soldering, welding and brazing, basic parts making, fitting and regulation.

Ideally familiar with a wide range of gun designs and has experience with a wide variety of American sporting arms. Experience with any double guns and over-unders a plus – particularly European double guns or Best guns such as Purdey or Boss. No AR-15s; armorers need not apply. Any experience in wood restoration, refinishing and repair would also be beneficial.

Gunsmith - Stock MAKER & STOCK RESTORATION

Job description

Griffin & Howe is looking for a full time gunsmith specializing in stock restoration and/or stock making, to join our well established and world-renowned Gunsmithing department.

Stock Restoration

Must have 3+ years’ experience in stock restoration, stock repair, refinishing, checkering, and recoil pad fitting – including leather covered pads. Ideally some experience with stock inletting skills. Must be familiar with fine bolt action rifles and double guns. Any additional gunsmithing skills would be beneficial; training can be provided for the right candidate with a partial skills set.

Stock Making

Candidates for this position must be proficient in the skills of inletting, shaping, and finishing. Checkering skills would also be an excellent addition. Stock making experience of three years or more would be advisable as would a demonstration of a high level of skill within the stock making discipline. Opportunities exist for those with skills in fine bolt action stocking or those with experience stocking two-piece firearms especially double guns. Training is available for the right applicant.

Gunsmith - Metalsmith

Job description

Griffin & Howe is looking for a full time metalsmith to join our well established and world-renowned Gunsmithing department.

Must have 5+ years experience with metal work and machining – we need someone comfortable with forming, shaping and polishing steel and who is comfortable with hand operated shop tools such as drill presses, lathes and mills, pack saws, files and polishing stones.

Desired examples of specific knowledge would be barreling and chambering, milling and metal finishing including bluing and case hardening. CNC machining would be a bonus but not essential.

A background in gunsmithing is preferable but not required; we are willing to consider those coming from other industry backgrounds with relevant experience and transferrable skills, but must have a passion for firearms.

Please note we are looking for someone who has experience with one-off parts manufacturing, not production.

Part Time Shotgun Instructor

Job description

The Griffin & Howe Shooting Academy is looking for part time shotgun instructors and Range Safety Officers to join our team. Primary responsibilities involve supervising and guiding clients during a range of charity and corporate events we host throughout the year, utilizing our 20 station sporting clay course and trap field.

Our events are a great opportunity to introduce people to the Griffin & Howe brand as well as the shooting lifestyle. Instructors typically supervise smaller groups of 1-4 people, working as a team with other instructors to ensure clients are safe, come away having learned something and most importantly had a great time! We are looking for dynamic, personable candidates who can bring heart and soul to our events and who thrive off building rapport. Regular training is provided.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Possess a New Jersey Firearms ID Card
  • 2+ years of shotgun shooting experience
  • NSCA membership is preferred but not required, as well as the level I, II or III course. We can provide certification classes for the right candidates.
