The S&W Second Model .38 top break was made from 1877 to 1891 with over 100,000 made. This example shows every moment of its age, little of its original nickel finish remains and pitting shows on both the exterior and inside the bore. The bore however does seem usable, with strong rifling and no substantial depth to the pitting. There appears to be a broken spring in the lockwork, making this pistol unusable unless the spring is replaced. An important note, the original serial number on the bottom of the grip has been ground off and only the number on the face of the cylinder remains.
