A 1970 production Belgian Browning Superposed Midas Grade Lightning Skeet over-under shotgun. Manufactured by master artisans at Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal, Belgium, this late-era masterpiece represents the pinnacle of high-grade production before the Superposed transitioned to a strictly custom-shop-only model. This firearm flawlessly marries robust mechanical dependability with museum-grade gold embellishment.
The heart of this firearm is its beautifully sculpted, deep blued receiver, which serves as a canvas for the legendary Midas Grade (Grade VI) hand engraving. This premium execution features high-relief, 24k gold-inlaid game bird scenes framed by intricate, scrolling gold wire borders engraved by master engraver André Dierckx whose signature is visible on the right hand side of the action.
A stunning depiction of three gold pheasants in flight adorns the left hand side of the action.
Three gold mallards take wing on the right side of the action. On the underside of the action, a single, meticulously detailed gold quail in flight.
The trigger guard is adorned with matching foliate scrollwork surrounding a clean, initial shield.
The remaining surfaces of the receiver, breech ends of the barrels, and forearm iron are blanketed in hand-cut floral and leafy scrollwork over a punch-dot background.
Metal condition is good with some small scratches on the barrels and light wear on the tang and safety catch. Wood condition is good with some handling marks on stock and forend and slight checking on the polyurethane finish.
