C.G. Haenel (Carl Gottlieb Haenel, Suhl, Germany) bolt-action sporting rifle. Factory sporting version of the German Commission Rifle Model 1888, predecessor to the Steyr Model 1903. Chambered in 8×57mm. Features the distinctive spoon bolt, adjustable double-set triggers, enclosed trapdoor magazine, Böhler steel barrel, 24-inch barrel, raised hand-filed rib, and dual flip-up blade front sights. The magwell shows patina and normal handling marks consistent with age.
