During the Second World War, Griffin & Howe was commissioned to engineer a specialized optics mounting solution for the U.S. M1 Garand. Because the Garand utilizes an en-bloc clip loaded through the top of the receiver, traditional scope mounts would have interfered with the rifle’s function. We solved this by adapting the technology from our sporting side mounts to create the legendary M1C Sniper Conversion, which allowed for the quick removal and reinstallation of optics without losing zero.
Historically, M1C mounts were comprised of a base, a top slide, and rings, with the latter two components forming the “top half.” Each top half was individually hand-fitted to its specific base and rifle, resulting in serialized components that were not interchangeable between rifles.
Today, we are proud to offer a faithful re-release of this iconic mount. Machined in-house using modern CNC technology, our new all-steel mounts are crafted to original dimensions but held to significantly tighter tolerances, allowing for modern interchangeability. These top halves are fitted with 7/8″ rings, making them ideal for original M81/M82 optics or high-quality reproductions.
While our new components offer improved fitment, our master gunsmiths are available to perform professional fitting to original bases or complete full M1C installations on rifles lacking the bottom half.
