TORRE ANNUNZIATA 1881 6.5X52MM

The Vetterli Model 1870/87/15 represents an important step in Italian military firearms development. Originally adopted as a single-shot black powder rifle in 1870, many were later converted to use the 6.5×52mm Carcano cartridge, extending their service life into the early 20th century. Rifles produced at the Torre Annunziata Arsenal are particularly desirable to collectors of Italian military firearms due to their historical significance and distinctive conversion history.

This Torre Annunziata Vetterli Model 1870/87/15 chambered in 6.5×52mm is in fair overall condition. The metal components show wear consistent with age and military service use. The barrel remains in fair condition, while the stock is in good condition with typical handling marks and service wear. The most significant issue is the bolt assembly, which is incomplete and missing several components, including the bolt handle. Because of the missing parts, the rifle is not functional in its current configuration and is best suited for restoration, display, or as a representative example in a military surplus collection.

Overall, this is an interesting and increasingly hard-to-find Italian service rifle that illustrates the transition from black powder firearms to smokeless-cartridge military arms, making it a worthwhile addition for collectors of European military firearms.
