Saturday September 26th, 1pm – 4pm
Transitioning from the clay field to the marsh requires more than just a steady aim; it requires a specialized tactical skillset. This course is designed for the experienced shooter looking to bridge the gap between traditional sporting clays and the authentic waterfowling experience.
We begin in the classroom, stripping away the mysteries of the hunt to focus on the gear and protocols that ensure a successful day in the blind. From a professional gunfit review tailored for heavy winter layers to a deep dive into the ballistics of chokes and loads for different species, we ensure your equipment is as ready as your eye. We also cover the vital “unspoken rules” of the marsh, including boat and blind safety, ground blind mechanics, and the discipline of shooting sectors.
Once the foundation is set, instruction moves to the field to simulate the high-stakes environment of a live hunt. You will learn to identify species by wingbeat and silhouette, distinguishing between fast-moving pass shooting and the patient timing required for decoying birds. Through eight classic presentations including tolling, overheads, and crossing shots, our instructors will coach you through the mechanics of shooting from seated or restricted positions. By the end of the session, you will have gained the situational awareness and etiquette that defines a true waterfowler.
