The Remington Model 11 was the first American made semi automatic shotgun, though it was in fact a licensed copy of the Browning designed Auto 5 made by FN. The only significant differences between the A5 and Model 11 was the absence of the magazine cutoff. The Remington model known as “The Sportsman” was a modified version of the original model 11 design, with a shorter internal magazine tube, limiting it to 3 rounds to comply with waterfowl laws. This example appears to have had some refinishing work, at least on the stocks and possibly on the metal. Despite the refinishing work repairing several cracks, the buttstock and forend has started cracking again where it holds recoil.
