The Winchester 1892 is in effect a shrunk down version of the model 1886, its dual locking blocks make it especially strong and modern versions can handle even the most powerful handgun cartridges. This example is an octagon barreled saddle ring carbine made in 1927. The combination of a saddle ring receiver and octagonal barrel is quite odd, but can be explained by the presence of the oval P stamp on the barrel, indicating that the barrel is a replacement installed by an outside gunsmith, making this an interesting custom firearm. Overall external condition is very good to excellent with only wear expected from its age, however it would appear that the bore wasn’t oiled before storage, causing areas of pitting throughout.
