The Gallager carbine was another early attempt at using self contained metallic cartridges, which were at this point still using a separate percussion cap for ignition. This system was much maligned by the soldiers who used them in the civil war, due to their difficult extraction. This example is in good condition for its age, with all of the metal in the white but no serious corrosion present. The only missing pare seems to be the front sight, but aside from that the firearm is complete and appears functional. The bore is in good condition, with very strong rifling and only mild corrosion.
