WINCHESTER 1873 38-40

The Winchester Model 1873 rifle chambered in the highly desirable .38-40 WCF, a caliber introduced to the Model 1873 in 1880 that quickly became a favorite throughout the American West. Its popularity stemmed from the convenience of allowing shooters to carry the same ammunition for both their Winchester rifle and Colt revolver. Most of the original factory bluing has naturally worn away, leaving a smooth, even gray-brown patina across the metal surfaces. The original walnut stock has developed a rich, dark complexion with only the expected handling marks and is fitted with the highly sought-after keyhole-style trapdoor buttplate, originally designed to house a multi-jointed cleaning rod.
