WINCHESTER 1917 .30-06 SPRINGFIELD

The Model 1917 was adopted in 1917 as the U.S. military rapidly expanded in preparation for joining WW1. Based on the British Pattern 1914 Enfield, the rifle is chambered in .30-06 Springfield and became the most widely issued U.S. infantry rifle during World War I. Winchester was one of three manufacturers that produced the rifle for the U.S. government during the war, along with Remington and Eddystone.
This Winchester example features a stock in fair condition, with the expected handling marks, wear, and signs of age found on a military rifle of this period. Most notably, the barrel and action are in good condition, with both matching up to a production date of April 1918 and displaying very light signs of pitting and wear. The rifle retains the distinctive features that make the M1917 instantly recognizable, including its rugged receiver, aperture sights, and long 26-inch barrel.
The M1917 played a major role in arming American forces in France during the first world war and remains an important piece of U.S. military history.
