The Remington model 81 was a design improvement of the earlier Model 8 autoloading rifle, which itself was the first commercially successful semi auto rifle offered for civilian sale in the United States. The excellent stopping power and fast follow up shots made the Model 81 an excellent choice for sportsmen and law enforcement alike, and was even selected by the FBI as additional firepower in response to the Kansas City Massacre in 1933. This example is in good to very good overall condition, with only very light wear on the metal parts but deep scratches in the finish of the stocks.
