This is a cavalry style cap and ball pistol with an approximately 65-68 caliber smoothbore barrel. The lock is marked 1867 Birmingham and still has good function. The twisted iron barrel still maintains some of its original brown finish and appears to be in good condition, despite its inconsistent bore. The stock has brass hardware and has been cracked and repaired at the wrist with very old looking screws, so I believe this to be a period repair. From what the original owner has stated, this is a relic from India and was used by the British East India Company, I have no reason to doubt this claim based on the condition.
