The Snider conversion was a widely used method for repurposing antiquated Pattern 1853 Rifle muskets into usable breech loading firearms. This example is one of many utilized by Nepalese soldiers serving under the British. In specific this Carbine was one issued to police or Native Levies of questionable loyalty, and as such was made with a smooth bore barrel and simplified sights. Although nominally chambered for the .577 Snider ammunition, it uses a roughly .565 diameter smooth bore making it far better suited to the dimensionally similar 24 Gauge shotshell. Overall condition of this firearm is quite poor, looking to have had substantial amounts of corrosion removed from the lockwork, and multiple non matching parts. the stock has also been badly broken and somewhat poorly repaired. A restoration was done on this firearm, but it is purely for display purposes, with gloss finish on the stock and polished brass.
