The Fusil modèle 1866 or “Chassepot” was a French breech loading service rifle developed in 1866 and served heavily during the Franco Prussian war. This example is in poor external condition, with no original finish remaining and several spots of deep rust. The bore however is immaculate, with clean and shiny rifling down its full length and only mild surface corrosion in the chamber. The bolt and trigger appear functional however the firing pin has been broken. With some refurbishment, this could likely become a fine shooting rifle once more.
