This 1903 Springfield barreled action has a receiver built in 1911 and a barrel made in 1939, as guns from 1911 still had the original heat treatment, there may be concern with embrittlement. Luckily this barreled action is also supplied with a Numrich .22 conversion, which consists of a barrel liner which is locked into the bore, and a replacement bolt which has adjustable headspace as well as modified bottom metal for detachable .22 magazines. Condition of the 1903 barreled action is good, with a good bore. however there have been some modifications, the bolt handle was replaced with a teardrop type, set to clear an optic, and the action has been drilled for scope mounts. As the 1903 action has a thin rear bridge, it is suggested that those holes not be used and instead Unertl type mounts be used on the receiver ring and barrel.
A note about the .22 conversion, these were made in the late 50’s using a Marlin barrel and modified Springfield components. In total, there were only about 1500 made.
