This Griffin & Howe Mauser Sporter is an excellent example of a well loved and well maintained sporter. It is quite obviously an early rifle, with its matted front bridge being stripped of its original Mauser serial number, something only possible until 1968. As well as the early pattern Lyman 48 sight and military style cocking shroud and safety that is more commonly swapped to a Model 70 type safety today. All of these classic features are offset by the barrel markings, which instead of reading a barrel number followed Griffin & Howe Inc. New York it reads “7-22-13 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York”, meaning that the rifle was rebarreled in 2013 and the owner chose not to transfer the barrel number over to the new barrel. Along with the new barrel, the rifle was reblued and recently had its stock refinished, making the rifle practically new.
